The China-EU Vaccine Industry Collaboration Platform (CEVCP), jointly launched by EVI and EUPIC in June 2019, aims to facilitate research and development (R&D) of vaccines for global health, to enhance continuous collaborations and exchanges with academia, industry, PDPs, policy makers, enterprises, talents and donors in this field. CEVCP promotes exchanges and cooperation between enterprises, universities and science parks from EU countries and China in terms of vaccine development, technology transfer, intellectual property protection, project incubation and investment.
In November 2023, Wuxi Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology, the Administrative Committee of Wuxi Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, the European Vaccine Initiative (EVI), and EU Project Innovation Centre (EUPIC) signed the Memorandum of Understanding. All sides agree to jointly promote the EU-China Vaccine Industry Collaboration Platform, for facilitating exchanges and cooperation between EU member states’ and China’s enterprises, universities and science parks, in the fields of vaccine development, technology transfer, project incubation and investment. All sides will periodically orgnize events such as science forums, technology workshops, enterprise delegation visits, business matchmaking meetings,etc., to make this partnership an important gateway to vaccine technology cooperation between EU countries and China.
The European Vaccine Initiative (EVI) is a non-profit Product Development Partnership (PDP) that supports the development of safe, effective and affordable vaccines to address global health needs. EVI works in partnership with research institutions, industry, funders, policy and decision makers, and other key stakeholders to accelerate vaccine innovation. Through its commitment to cutting edge research and strategic partnership, EVI advances a diverse vaccine portfolio and promotes R&D targeting critical public health challenges and emerging opportunities.
The EU Project Innovation Centre (EUPlC) is the only project innovation center of EU in China founded in 2006, which was supported by the Asia lnvest programme of the European Commission. lt is an international collaborative platform jointly supported or built by the Chinese and EU governments. EUPlC now runs three regional centers in China: west center (Chengdu), north center (Qingdao) and east center (Wuxi), radiating to 22 provinces and cities in the north-western and eastern China. EUPlC has a large database of 84 countries, 840 economic development organizations, 350 research institutions and universities, 96 world-class industrial parks, 17 industrial clusters and 3.8 million high-tech enterprises.
Wuxi City is located in East China and the south of Jiangsu Province. As the center of the Yangtze River Delta region and an important part of the Shanghai Metropolitan Area and the Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou Metropolitan Area, Wuxi is the main birthplace of China's modern national industry and commerce, with landmark industries such as the Internet of Things industry, integrated circuits, and biomedicine.
Wuxi National High-tech District (Xinwu district) is located in the southeast of Wuxi, connecting with Suzhou to the east and Taihu Lake to the south. More than 30 years of development have turned Wuxi National High-tech District (Xinwu district) into Wuxi's most important economic growth pole with its role as a window opening to the outside world, a technological innovation base and a transformation development engine becoming increasingly essential. Today it encompasses a modern industrial system supported by pillar industrial clusters developing microelectronics, new energy, high-end equipment manufacturing, the Internet of Things, new materials, new-type display technology and life sciences.
Wuxi has fostered an industrial pattern covering chemical pharmacy, biological pharmacy, medicaequipment, modern Chinese medicine, medical service outsourcing, dietary supplement, biologicaenironmental protection and biological agriculture, etc. Wuxi now have 2,158 biomedical enterprisesdemonstrating a posilive tendency of clustering and in-depth development. The total operating revenue from biomedical industry cluster in 2023 reached (USD 28.513 billion) RMB200.926 billion with a yearonyear growth of 5.2%.
